A friend of mine is worried about catching eels on an up-coming fishing holiday. I've tried to reasure them but would like some replies on how to avoid them.
Come on please folks, help me with this. I'll make sure the person gets to see the thread and will hopefully alay their fears.

These days there are not many eels around.

Keep the bait off the bottom, tons of eels in my local river (Worcestershire Avon)and they do take sweetcorn.

I have caught one on breadflake many years ago.
Infact it was my first ever.
Caught it at Kirton Rudd Pond.
the only species in there were rudd and a few eels.

My biggest eel recently came on sweetcorn, but in general avoid meaty baits, especially at dusk / night and you'll not see many of them.
