I went fishing to my local lake a few weeks ago in search of small carp which we planned to catch on a blockend feeder.

When we got there there was a guy in the next peg who was fishing open ended feeder with three rods on bite alarms???

He had caught about 4 carp when we arrived we finished the day with eigth carp between two of us in about an hour and he and is armarda of rods and gear finished with eight in about eight hours fishing so is it true that blockend feeders are better in winter?

All opinions would be grateful!

big tinca, I couldn,t quite understand your sums, unless you and your friend only fished for one hour

In my opinion the two feeders have totally different functions.
Block end carries maggots and some grounbait, if you wish.
Open ended are for mainly grounbait with some maggot/casters etc mixed in.

I suspect the other angler was using his open ended feeders as "method" feeders. Moulding groundbait around the feeder as well as in it.

I can't believe I missed out on another baggin session...mid winter as well.

As cranfield said, each feeder suits a different purpose so it's hard to say, and obviousley choice of swim can make a huge difference, glad you had fun, hopefully I'll meet up with you and aero in the new year

When fishing for carp open end feeders tend to be better than block end.Method feeders are very good aswell

Hi all,im Big tinca's "fishing" friend and we fished for one hour because thats all we had time for!
Personaly i think the maggot feeder seen as they are more active and should atract more fish.
