Hi, I wondered if anyone could help. I'm a sometime angler but would like to devote a bit more time to it. I live in Kent and have considered joining a club. Tonbridge initially looked favourite. I'd like to know if there are ample spots on the Medway that are day-ticketed or free. I went for a scout around yesterday upstream from Ensfield Bridge to Fordcombe but it all seemed to be Tonbridge or RTWAS owned. I'm mainly interested in River Fishing but has anyone fished at Chiddingstone Castle, or Bough Beech reservoir. Any good?
Thanks, Nathan |

Welcome to AN Nathan.
I am not aware of the free or day ticket fishing on the upper Medway but there is plenty on the river downstream of Tonbridge, the area around the Law Curts at Maidstone being particularly good in Winter. The Picnic Site at Barming Bridge (Day Ticket controlled by Maidstone Victory) is also good and it throws up the odd 5lb plus chub every now and then. ndeezy
There is free fishing on the Medway All the way from Unicoms lane at maidstone down to Allington ( on the Towpath side) East Farliegh Down.Upstream of Yalding Wier to the CALPAC sign East Peckham from the main road up to the Wier and about 200 yards from Tonbridge High Street down to the Wier. I cant think of any free stretches on any of the smaller rivers of the area. Day tickets are available on a number of the Tonbridge waters but not the stretches above Haysden. If you havent allready have a look on the Tonbridge and District website for details. I think Maidstone Victory sell some Day Tickets for the Medway but that may have changed. As far as I know all of the Medway and Eden above Haysden is controlled by clubs so if its these bits that apeal then I am affraid you will need to join one of them. There are a fair few places to fish on Day ticket/ Free but the better spots on the river from Tonbridge up will be club ticket only. Tonbridge membership covers a lot of river along with some very good lake fishing and at £30 represents good value. www.tonbridge-angling.co.uk |

Thanks both. Much appreciated. I'll look into membership of Tonbridge but will go for a jaunt downstream first.
