Hi all,
Just wanted to say hello as I have been lurking here for a couple of weeks..
Just got back into the sport of course fishing after a 15 year lay off, goodness how it has changed and gone a bit scientific..
Just come back from the coarse lake at Tewitfields in Carnforth after a six hour session of catching small roach and perch to about 1lb.
a great little fishery and friendly.beats yesterday on the canal at the Aquaduct at Lancaster.
Yours in Sport,
Gazhilla

Can i also just say a big recommendation to the guys at Gerry's Tackle in Morecambe, fantastic helpful staff for an outdated beginner.

Welcome.

Your results were lots better than mine yesterday. I had baits out amongst carp (easy to tell since quite a few were jumping right where my rigs were). Total for the day was 4 catfish (on a light rod and under a float - just to pass the time between carp bites biggrin.gif ) and the largest slightly over 1lb.

Still, it was at least 1000% better than not being on the water.

Cheers guys,
Newt, the biggest problem i had were a nuisance shoal of tiny perch had to put all shot near to bottom of hooklength to prevent tehm snatching the bait on the drop. The roach were in lovely condition. lost a couple of small roach when they were grabbed as i was reeling them in, predators and 1.5lb hooklengths dont mix.. great day on a drennan stillwater blue, works just as well as it did 15 years ago..

Hi Gazhilla! Join the ever-expanding club of returnees to fishing, on this board. I'm sure that it won't be long before you, too, are singing the praises of the Intrepid 'Black Prince': we must be driving the regulars barmy! In my first year of fishing, having returned after twenty years away, I've found out it isn't really that scientific at all. You put bait in front of fish, you wait, fish feels hungry and eats bait, you catch it! There are many who like it to be a lot more complicated than that, but it needn't be. Biggest change I've found, is how cheaply you can buy decent tackle, these days: why persist with fibreglass, when you can have half the weight, in carbon-fibre, for under fifty quid, and they'll often throw in a good reel too?

I agree Pangolin, cant believe the cheapness of carbon rods etc, getting the urge to buy a pole now, they really are cheaper than they used to be...
I also agree with the statement you make about only making it complicated if you want to, caught all my fish today on double red maggot with pinkie and half a can of cooked hemp for feed.
What an invention canned hemp is, did not fancy the missus being introduced to that smell YET....
Any others on here from the North Lancs area????
any recommendations on beginners waters would be appreciated in the area...
YIS

Not from your area, mate, but John Bailey recommends Wyreside, Lancaster, in his excellent 'Where to fish' guide. Tel. 01524 792093

Welcome back indeed. Did my return 12 years ago after an 11 year absence.

You did better yesterday than me also. Landed one pike out of three takes on dead bait and zero out of three on the fly. But better than a blank.
