On my Sunday morning trip to Peatling Parva I had big ideas on carp, but came up trumps on other species. I baited up with a mix of casters, chopped worm and hemp, about 30ft out, and fished the wag with either worm/caster hookbait or luncheon meat.
It was slow going, but after about 2 hours and a couple of bream/small carp things started to take off. By the end of the day id had about 30 bream, each weighing 2-3lb each, with some nice hybrids, I also landed 3 Golden Tench (only small but not having caught any previously, very welcome), roach, rudd and a nice 6lb carp. To mirror the simple set up thread, I kept it nice and simple and bagged up accordingly. -------------------- A bird in the bush is worth two in the hand

Keeping it simple is the way!! But the main reason that you caught was that you weren't fishing 11 meters out. The fish are now wise to the 11 meter poleman!! Fish at 10 meters and bag up. Possibly nearing a ton of fish, thats an excellent result!!

Indeed a fine morning, however sadly cut short by the wife requesting my company
However did manage to get some good action in with 8 or so nice carp including my largest common which looked just shy of double figures Chris's Golden Tench were lovely looking fish. Also is it true that there are Barble around?? |

It is fishing very well at the moment, isn't it? I fished it for the first time for a month on Saturday.
There was a Phil Tufnell act alike (high on something, possibly adrenaline the amount of fish he was catching!) fishing my favourite Malcolm swim on Saturday evening, and he was catching large fish at an incredible rate. Best fish was 18lb+ and he claimed 9 fish over 15lb (at least two or three of these while I was watching, so this is believable). He was feeding the margins quite heavily with a groundbait mix containing particles and pellets, and then standing behind the tree and dropping worm under a small float into the feeding fish. I did eventually start catching in the last 1˝ hours, about 40lb made up of 6 carp in the 4-9lb range and 5 bream in the 1-1˝lb range, on small pieces of luncheonmeat about 10 feet out in 6 or 7 feet of water. The bites were almost instant once the fish finally moved into the swim. Yes, he did stock small barbel and chub along with the golden tench last year. I forgot to ask him if there were any larger fish amongst them. |

where was this 'phil' fishing?
i was in between the 2 trees round the back of the island, fishing in about 6-7ft of water. sheepy had his lovely common on the other side of the tree. still not had any of those big perch dispite trying to tempt them with snake sized lobbies. -------------------- A bird in the bush is worth two in the hand

It sounds like 'Phil' was fishing the same swims as you and Sheepy, initially the wide swim (three swims according to the paving slab positioning) between the two trees with the breeding pond behind you, and then the one the Parva (smallest pond) side of this swim. He was fishing the Parva side swim when I was there. Next time feed the margins a foot or two out and keep quiet
The only decent perch I have had there was a 2lb'er the first time I fished Parva pool, on floatfished luncheonmeat (of course). |

I know what you mean re.floatfished luncheon meat, i was having a few fish on worm and caster but the bites started to dry up, so i switched to meat and it was a fish a chuck, a slight exageration but most casts had a response, wether or not i struck into a fish was a different matter.
I fished the left hand swim of the three, and the 6lb carp came after i saw a tail at my feet. I dropped some meat literally over its head and he went down to investigate. I left it a few seconds and when the vortecies (?sp) started to appear on the surface i stood there with my rod verticle and the hook just dropping into the water about a foot out. My line suddenly started to head out to the lake and i just bent into it nice and smoothly. a top feeling! both sheepy and me are eagerly awaiting our next visit! Maybe see you there! -------------------- A bird in the bush is worth two in the hand
