Hi everyone! About a year ago I have been looking over this bridge which goes over a tiny stream. This road is a cut of from the road I live down and is where a horses filed is. I've recently seen some Koi Carp and Ghosties of about 5-6lb in there with some massive goldfish too. I have seen a mirror Carpin there too of about 4lb. There are loadsa Roach, Rudd and Minnows and Eels in there aswell. But there water is about 1ft deep and about 4ft wide in some areas!!!??? The owner of the horses who own the land attached to the stream said he put the exotic ones in there when they were babies as they were given to him but didnt have a pond. How do they live in such extreme conditions and where do they go? Sometimes they are gone, sometimes they're there? Someone please answer this for me coz I'm confused :S

That it just what carp do. VANISH! You have to rember that carp, being in goldfish family, are very hardy fish and will survive nearly everything. Why do you think they chose to put goldfish in those bags you win at the fair? Would the owner mind if you dropped a line in there? That would be a great oportunity to catch a nice koi. Use luncheon meat on a small stick float is you can. Could you get a pic??? I love koi and ghosts!

I have dipped my rod in there a few times but they dont seem to be there! I have thrown some bread in when they are and they love it but the owner said I cant fish there becuase some little kids have been copying and leaving hooks there and is worried about his horses. Fair enough I suppose! I did manage to get a minnow!! But Yeh sure if I see them again I will get some photos. There is a lovely Ghost Carp in there. I too love exotic fish. Especially in the wild!! I guess they just wonder off then. I'd love to know where. There must be deeper water where I cant get to. You can literally get a few ft away from them.

My best fish watching experience was watching 6 double figger common carp miling around a meter away from the bank in shallow water just before a thunder strom. I could see them all really clearly. They are clever little tings and will use cover to their advantage. Possibly under a brigde? I wonder...? rolleyes.gif

I think my best were watching them under the bridge and at a caravan site where there was small lake with loads of orfe and carp of all sorts. My friend got a big orfe out with his hand! I'm really keen to catch an orfe. Another friend caught a goldfish in a lake I ususlly go to and it werent spose to be in there?? i bloke said birds transport fish eggs accidently on its feet and that how they get there. There are some lakes I see which are out of bounds becasue it is owned by farmers and they are not timid or shy at all. I bet it would be great fishing in there! - They dont know any better. I also go to this aquarium where it has a glass wall in an underground but comes out of it about 6ft from the ground. You cansee tench and Carp up close really clearly - its amazing. Sturgeon are in there too at about 30lb!

One word of warning to those thinking of "rescuing" exotic fish and putting them into a natural water - don't!

Some of these fish carry diseases that could wipe out our native fish. See the lead article in this week's Angler's Mail for details of a new killer disease that's especially disturbing.

Carp are extremely hardy, i think i read somewhere that back in the good old days of galleons and shipping the old fashioned way, they used to keep carp in barrells and feed them scraps from the gally simply because theyl eat anything and can live in really dirty/unhealthy water.....the carp were then killed and eaten......and the remains probably fed back to the other carp?!
