got my wife an 11foot float rod for xmas but she does not like it, its to long, until this time she was using a 9 foot ledger rod for her float fishing, which she liked because it was light and not to long, can anyone recommend a 9 foot rod that she can use for general float fishing, but nothing to heavy.

If where she fishes is clear from bankside snags and overhanging trees, can't you get her to persevere with it. It'll be worth it when she gets used to it. What rod is it? It shouldn't be that heavy these days.

I don't know what reel she is using on the rod, but are you sure it's balanced, it can make all the difference.

Buy her a top of the range 13' match rod (well her paying, you advising) and then see her use it...
It will b e so light she will soon be flinging out the floats! [ 20. January 2004, 09:26 PM: Message edited by: lee wood ] -------------------- Lee Wood

I had a look at an Italian made 8' long ultra- lite rod today. £45.00 and good quality. Saw it in Tackle Direct. Very tempted. If your wife wants a light and short rod then it might pay to look in the spinning rod section of your local tackle shop. Ron Thompson might be worth looking at as well.

I would have thought a 9'0" rod is going to be OK until you fish somewhere more than about 7'0" deep, and then your wife is going to start struggling, unless you already use a sliding float or one of those polaris jobbies.

Some of the 9ft spinning rods are nice and light and good fun for floatfishing .
A heavy-ish float is best used with these to aid casting. Ive even ledgered for carp with my Silstar traverse x and do they bend well with a 5lb carp on great fun. |
