Stephen Marsh Smith wrote 'I intend to instil a culture of transparency ' but this hasn't been made very public yet - I wonder why?
Dear Stephen It is with real sadness that I'm afraid I have to resign from my position as President of the ACA. I have watched with dismay the treatment of Bob & Jane James in recent weeks and I believe that several sledgehammers have been used to crack a nut. The locking them out of their office, an office that Jane has dignified for 18 years, and the levelling against them of "crimes" involving a hoover and the now famous 90p cash voucher, should surely have been settled over a pot of tea. When men of the stature of Chris Sandford, Neil Leaver, Chris Liebbrandt and Trevor Johnson all walk away from the ACA there is clearly something seriously amiss. The whole affair seems to have been handled in a manner unworthy of the Association that I was once so proud to serve as President and I want no further part of it. Yours sincerely CHRIS TARRANT OBE |

There is clearly more here than the open letter from the new chair..........locking people out of their offices is not the way most businesses, other than the most cut throat operations, tend to work.
Having Chris as the president was probably one of the better moves on the general public stage. The recent events have certainly done harm to the ACA, whether this harm is similar to the severing of a limb to remove the spread of gangrene, or is a terminal wound, only time will tell. -------------------- phil,

I can't say for sure as I haven't read it myself... but apparently Chris Yates resigned his membership too. I am told it was in an article in last Saturday's Telegraph, but don't recall seeing it.

Gordon Bennet. Not the start of another 6 or seven pages of rubbish about how good or bad everyone is.
And it strikes me that PeterK ought to say who he is and why he so anxious to stir up trouble. Pete |

Phil, Locking people out.
It can happen within the most unlikely organisations. It happened to my wife (she was chair of a large publicly funded organisation) By the time she had access to her office much of what she needed had disappeared. Of course I would be the last person to suggest it could happen within the ACA. To date we have only heard officially from the Chair. A totally unbiased reflection, of course. Pete, I believe Peter K is one of many ACA Council Members who has resigned in recent weeks. [ 14. December 2004, 03:03 PM: Message edited by: wearyone ] -------------------- |
