My carp in the pond have been spawning over the last couple of days.
How long does it take for them to hatch into fry? |

About five to ten days providing the temperature remains OK.

My mirror carp spawned with my koi two years ago.
i took out some of the spawn and kept it in a tank and also managed to catch the tiny tiny fry and from 10 babies i have managed to grow two koi and they're doing well. it was interesting watching the fry grow. some where obvious genetic freaks and died quickly without developing but a few grew to a couple of centimetres before their brains exploded! -------------------- Regards,

Would he be advised to segregate the spawn if they have a chance of hatching?, would the adults eat them?

I have put some in my tank probly about 50 or so.
If I'm lucky I may get a few. Looking forward to the birth.

Adults will certainly eat the spawn. And fish farmer, Ken Crow, tells me that some of the fry become cannibals and eat their own brethen. Not surprisingly, these grow very quickly.

So, all you have to do now is catch the plankton and benthos etc to feed the little darlings.

I have a bucket of stagnant water with all sorts of thing living in it ie blood worm and other larva. I think the will feed on finely broken up koi food any way. The other fish I have bred have done ok on dried food. |
