Looking for a few venues near Thetford that hold a good head of decent sized pike. Been fishing Abbey Heath Lake but it seems to be packed with Jacks, all round th 5lbs mark. Supposed to hold a 30 but I'm getting more and more sceptical. Have had 2 fish of 10lbs and 11lbs but loads of 4-6lbs
SUFFOLK LAD - Where are you based? got any good venues you're prepared to share!!!!!

Suffolk Water Park if you want alot of action.

BUt travelling to the fens in Norfolk is very much your best bet for the real big gals.

Speak to David Godbold at Birds Tackle in Great Blakenham near ipswich (2 or so miles from the water park) and he can tell you EVERYTHING you need to know about piking in Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire area. He practically lives up on the fenland drains and Ouse.

He is only there on a Wednesday now and even if you are in Thetford the drive is well worth the trouble as its a big store 5000sq ft with a good pike tackle range and thousands of lures.

I am not a Pike specialist but the following are where I have seen the dark outlines/jaws of some biggies.

Some of the GAPS sections on the Gipping are well worth a look if you are mobile. Or the LMA section of the Stour.

Polly,

I'm based near Bury but, apart from my Uncle's private Estate Lakes , I have to travel quite far afield for some decent pike fishing ... into the Fens! I also fish for zeds too so I also go to the Cut-off Channel, Ouse, Cam and several of the well-known Fen drains. They can be hard-going too though. I guess my closest, bestest venue for doubles would be the Ouse where the Lark joins it. Had a couple of 20s from there so far this season. It usually gets even better towards the back end of the season i.e. late Feb -early March;)

Hope this helps
