Morning.

Was wondering If I could delve into the vast depths of knowledge this forums' anglers obviously have.......

Was looking forward to a days fishing with 9 mates a week on Friday, (2 birthdays to celebrate!) at a day ticket venue on the River Kennet. Main requirement being GRAYLING as a few of us have never caught the species before. One of the gang has since been down there for a trial day, (Barton Court) and was very disapointed with the deterioation of the fishing in this area tongue.gif , I don't want to go into the 'ins and outs' of this venue as I have no knowledge of it myself, so I cant comment. But I do respect his opinion biggrin.gif . We don't want to travel all the way down there for a disapointing day, and have to string him up at the end of it!! I appreciate fish can be fickle, but It does sound from his description that it has changed for the worse..? what I do want to know is an alternative.....if there is one??

It needs to be a maximum of 2-2.5 hours from Cambridge, with a good chance of a few grayling, day ticket fishing with back up species such as roach, perch, and chub....

I appreciate this may be a tall order, given the travelling constraints but.......

Ta in advance for any suggestions,

Gordon.

How about the river Wharfe at Collingham? You are guaranteed to get grayling if the conditions are suitable and as an ex-southerner myself I'll also guarantee you'll love the surroundings. Back-up fish will be mainly chub at this time of year although dace and roach are present.
Cheers

Try the River Test at Timsbury (just north of Romsey) GAURANTEED a grayling (or 50!) there... biggrin.gif

No web presence you can ring em on 01264 365165 or 0770 3471312

I've fished it for the last 3 or 4 years and have organised a couple of AN fish-ins there...

Er thanks for that Mr Ferret.

Cheers for the response guys, I think we're gonna have to get back to the drawing board, it seems that any quality grayling fishing is a bit of a treck, so an overnight stay seems appropriate.......

Cheers

Ferret
Barton Court is on the Itchen, made famous by G.E.M Skues.
Now has new owners who, I'm told, practice somewhat different management to most angling clubs / river owners.

Andrew

Barton Court is on the Kennet at Kintbury. We fished there last year on a fish in from this site.

Err no it isn't, it's on the Kennet at Kintbury...

Doesn't have many grayling - plenty of other coarse species though...
