Hi all..

I'm thinking of looking to buy a boat, but am a complete novice where boats are concerned. I'd like it for shallow water/inshore mulleting/bassing, and have been looking at something like a 14'/15' Cathedral hull type with cuddy/cabin plus outboard. I've found a local mooring for £5-£7.50 a week (allegedly-I haven't talked to the owner yet).

I remember a recent thread where Elton posed a similar question, and the general concensus seemed to be DON'T DO IT. I realise that there are enormous pitfalls, especially where hulls and engines are concerned. The engine part doesn't worry me too much-I'm a dab hand with motors-but it's all the rest that I have to be really aware of. I have too many questions to post here, so what I was wondering was: is there a website and/or book that someone could point me in the direction of? A sort-of "Boating for Beginners"?

Any advice/tips will be gratefully received. Thanks.

Best bet is to see what other folk are using in your area. Different sea conditions suit different styles of boat. I do like a cathedral hull, but certainly an Orkney Longliner is worth considering as well.
