Anyone ever fished either of the above?

I took a visit with friends earlier today and saw shoals of nice bream and loads of roach, and a couple of carp on the canal. The water was clear to a depth of over 3 feetbut the fish were feeding on the surface or less than a foot below. It was grat to watch.

The river looked really nice with enough flow to encourage the use of the 'pin and I understand that it's free fishing according to the owner of one of the Liverpool tackle shops. I saw a reasonable sized chub and a few roach.

If the information is correct, I feel a trip or 3 coming on!

I've not fished the 'dirty duggie' at Rufford but further upstream at Gathurst it used to be great fun, a chub every chuck, no great size though.
It runs fairly adjacent to the canal for some miles. I never bothered much with the canal.

Gathurst is on the Wigan anglers card, I thought the canal near Rufford was too, shared with Burscough or something, but I'm not too sure.

Prince Albert also have a stretch of the duggie at Newburgh.
There are some very pretty swims but like most small rivers it can be quickly up after rain and coffee coloured.

Thanks. I have to say that it was a really relaxing trip and the fishing potential was there - no great size, but plenty of fun to be had.

Not sure about Rufford Alan but alot of that canal is day ticket - certainly around Maghull anyway.

Found this on 1fish.co.uk: http://www.1fish.co.uk/Fishery%20List/lancashire.htm
