Having once nailed myself to the carpet by stubbing my big toe on a dropped treble, I can guarantee that fish flesh and human flesh are very different in makeup. Despite grabbing the hook with pliers and applying full force, I could not rip the hook out against the barb. The opnly option was to snip it off and push the point through my toenail.

If a similar injury ever occurs again, snipping off the eye and pushing the hook through will be the only option that I'll consider.
Personally, I'd not go near a doctor unless an eye or a joint was involved.
