The Ron Thompson carp rods are extremely good! And you'll get some change, if you go to the right dealer!

Personally I wanted three piece rods. Shakespeare do two of them, and I picked the slightly dearer Valour 3 section carp rod at £42. I've only used them once, but they seem good enough to me.

whant are the pros and cons of a 3piece and a 2 piece bearing in mind that the reason i broke my last one is beacaus the tip stuck 6inches out of my rod holdall.
is there any differance in playing the fish.

Angler's Mail reviews them this week, and the only one under £50 they consider is 'Waterline Sixth Sense Carp Specialist', which sounds Ok. My 'Euphoria Power Carp' only cost me £39, but I'm not totally happy with it: It's got a very fast tip action, making the rest of the rod a bit of a broom-handle. I'd also say that a two-piece twelve foot rod causes all sorts of unforseen problems, like it doesn't fit in my rod holdall, and it doesn't fit in the back of the car. It has to travel between the passenger seat and the door, and I've had one or two close things when opening and closing the door. Does anyone else know who makes the 'Euphoria'? I bought it as a half-price sale item... (buy in haste, repent at leisure!)

get either a bigger holdhall or a rod tube to prevent it happening again, whichever rod you choose.

Check out the Fox Warrior rods at just under £50 (although they're probably cheaper mail order). They are two-piece, but come in a sturdy rod tube.

I don't think there is a great difference between a modern three piece and two piece carp rod. Carp experts are bound to disagree, but I find them much easier to transport and carry and this far out weighs any small sacrifice in performance.

You can get four and five piece carp rods these days, if you want an even more compact one, but the ones I've seen cost more than £50!

One thing though, you can't really rig up a three piece before fishing like you can a two piece.
