Help please. Just got back into fishing and I have always wanted to have a serious go at Pike fishing, especially as its now winter. I wondered if anyone could comment on the TFG Matt Hayes new carp/pike blanks. Also what is the best test curve to opt for.

Comments appreciated

3lb TC is the standard for Pike rods although this will really depend on the range you are fishing and the size of bait.Anything from 2 1/2lb up to 4lb.Avoid the higher TC carp rods though as they normally have a much faster taper and this tends to be unsuitable for casting pike baits.

The TFG was highly praised in the currant edition of Pike-Lines magazine.

If you are new to piking have a look at http://www.pacgb.com

So many of these under £50 rods available these days.We are spoilt for choice......or are we? These "bargain" rods are merely the same cheap far Eastern imports but without last years garish air brushing etc and finnished to look like quality rods. Ive no problem with this as they are perfectly okay but it is a point worth remembering when taking things like strength into mind.

I went into my local tackle shop yesterday, as I need a new spinning/lure rod - there's only one for me
