Well I have been posting for a long time on AN. I will always debate my corner, frequently forgetting the PC side, however despite a bit of joshing ( Gordon !) the disagreements have always been light hearted with some fun digs. I would always shake tackle on the bank(Oww!)and make up with those not agreeing with my old fashioned views.
Lately many comments seem to be increasingly abusive, a sign of ignorance rather than substance. Even I have found it hard not to respond in kind! Lets keep it valued, otherwise it will be left to the biggest/rudest mouths to take over and the main purpose, to learn/share ideas/create a greater brotherhood will be lost. |

Can't argue with that, Graham.
Everyone should realise that people are different - that's what makes groups of us interesting. If we all agreed, life would be dull. However, this is fishing we're talking about here - despite what many think, it isn't life or death, it isn't earth shattering and it isn't the end of the world. It's supposed to be a form of escapism, I thought. A way of unwinding from the stresses of life - not a new source for added stress. I'm all for healthy debate, but let's keep it civil and clean. You'll find that you may well disagree with somebody on one aspect of our sport, only to find that he or she is your closest ally in a separate debate. Personally, I have a real problem with those who use pseudonyms, yet like to express strong opinions.
To my mind it is exactly the same as sending anonymous letters to the press and as far as I'm concerned I am now reluctant to get involved unless I have some idea who I am talking to. If forums of this kind are to progress it is essential in my opinion for the persons identity to be revealed in their profile. I truly believe the level of discussion will fall if more and more " anonymous" posters get on board. If people wish to participate and are looking for intelligent, thoughtful comments and debate I would suggest it is a must. Steve Pope. |

I'm with Steve P on this one, If you have the guile to criticise someone heavily, at least have the gulie to put your REAL name to it.
I also agree with Elton, healthy debate is fine, ridicule and agrueing your point is not. Tight Lines Steve Randles |

Have to agree with both Steves. Why can't this forum be setup like the new FAQ forum, only registered users can post replies. It may put off the idiots who just like to drop in and post a wind up!

I was a little reluctant to post a reply on this thread as I suspect that I'm one of the people that your refering to here Graham. Didn't want to appear hypocritical...
Over recent times certain people on this forum appear to have wound me up more than is neccessary....so yeah, hands up I'm one of the guilty ones (maybe). I have to say though Steve P. that I totally agree with you on the point of anonymous posters or those using nommes de guerre. I agree with you also Paul that something needs to be done about the "fly by nights"... Anyway, apologies to the forum as a whole for the rather heated discussions of the past couple of day's... Simon.. |

Hi all, it's because we are so passionate about our own style that we become too defensive, too quickly.
I've certainly been guilty of this and sometimes looked back on what I've written and cringed. ![]() All the best, Garth Barnard, (all my friends call me Gaffer )

I am addicted to AN and can't stay away. I got so fed up with the coarse fishing section that I have been looking at the sea fishing. I wish that people would remember that there young anglers on this site and we should set a better example. You all contribute so much with your advice and help to others, why spoil it I also agree that people who for there own reasons can't be identified should not be allowed to post. If you need stress relief, email me and I will send you a brilliant one. Now I am going codding. BIBI Alan(nl) P.S. How do you get those smilies etc in the text?
