Hi all,
I have twice now suffered from braid snapping at the knot, when using a strangulation type knot. I tie my knots properly and always moisten really well before tightening. Anyone else had this problem (with braid in general, or using strangulation knots specifically) ? On both occasions, I hooked a zoo creature in a weirpool and am mighty cheesed off about it and may have to return to mono - despite prefering the sensitivity of braid (not that I needed sensitivity for these bites, they damn well nearly pulled the Avon rod in, never mind around !) cheers -------------------- Jon Hedges

never had a problem with braid snapping with a stragulation knot, slipping yes, but not snapping.
i always use a palomar knot with braid (well except for hair rigs, then it's a knotless knot) i know there are other knots that people prefer, but the palomar is reliable and very easy to tie, even with cold wet hands |

Cheers Jeepster - never used it myself - do you know of any diagrams (of how to tie one) floating around the internet anywhere?

I always use either the grinner or centauri for braid when attaching to the swivel. The knotless knot is always used for attaching to the hook. Never had any problems with snapping on the knots. The centauri knot is a great knot but does need a little practice to get it right

Always use the grinner myself and never found a reason to use anything else since I started.

when i started i learnt the grinner and the palomar, and found the palomar much easier to tie, and that's why i stuck with it!

I use the palomar knot for all types of braid. Recently got a 191lb skate and a 200lb skate using a palomar knot. Not a problem at all, and simple to tie.
