..........how's the best way to get it fishing?
The pool is only small and maybe 6 feet deep but gin clear. I have seen roach, perch and a 6 inch jack pike in there so far. There is something BIG in there cos I have seen the splashes and swirls. I know that it's never been fished. Would it be best for me just to bait it with maggots untill the fish get the taste of them of what???????? |

No need to bait up Dave.Ive always found both maggots and worms to be instant on unfished waters.

Worm is gonna be a killer bait, as well as other naturals, as they'll be used too them.
Would imagine the "something big" to be a pike feeding on roach??? A spinner may be a good bet if there's jack's in there too. Look forward to hearing some results -------------------- Dan

I was down there looking at it last year and pretty sure I saw a bloody terrapin in the pool.
Went this afternoon to have a look, didn't see the little jack but saw the roach best looked about 8ozs. Next time I'm down there it'll be worms, I have some left over from a match last weekend so I'll give them a blash. Thanks for the replies chaps. |

In addition to the worms & maggots as suggested by Budgie, you should have success with any small crawly things you find bankside.
These fish have eaten something all their lives and if you are matching what they already know, they should do fine. -------------------- "Democracy dies when the people wanting their government to take care of them outnumber those wanting to take care of themselves." - Author Unknown - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - For a selection of lures, reels and other items, visit my eBay shop http://stores.ebay.com/JaNewt-eMart |

theres probably scores of unfished ponds around you unless you live in deepest bigtown ,get a good map and spot them then go and visit the farm its on (not that easy though) most will say "baint no fish in thar" or dialects to that effect but will usually give an amused ok for you to try ,most have a healthy fish stock and they just love worms and maggotts ,we fished loads in a ten mile radias round folkestone (ok the big pond to the south is the sea) and few had nothing in them ,only the black ponds in woods and muddy dew ponds being empty of life bar mozzies
