Hi all - hope someone out ther can help.

My grandad passed away in January and we have just gotten around to looking through his tackle. Amongst the many sundries, there are 4 rods and 3 reels all in very good (or even mint in some case) condition. Any help on value (and identification) would be very much appreciated:

1. Aspindale Aero rod - approx 10ft 6" long (cane, 3 piece). 1 inch up the butt is number 890, right next to the butt is no 961. It has a cork handle. On the rod is the text "Astwood Bank, Redditch".

2. Aspindale Aero - approx 12ft 2", 3 piece rod. The top eye has a swingtip screw thread (cane, 3 piece). 1 inch up from the butt is the no 892/3. One the rod is the text "Manor works".

3. An 8ft 2" cane rod. Near the butt is a triangle - running parallel on each of the lines of the triangle is the name of one city - London, Bristol, Manchester. Within the triangle (which is red)is the word Lindop(?).

4. As per 3 but 8ft and lighter than the 8ft 2" version - we assume these are Pike spinning rods ?

5. JW Young ambidex reel (gold colour). In orig box

6. JW Young 4" rapidex in gun metal grey. This is absolutely mint and and comes in it's original box (price is still on it too - £4/1/-p

7. Mitchell (Garcia) 300 - mint with spare spool. This is black metal and has a grey bale arm. Purchased mid to late 60's we think.

I'd really appreciate any advice on the price of the individual items, likely buyers and especially the identification of items 3 and 4

Cheers all

If the rapidex is as good as you say it is I'd say perhaps £80+ (they aren't rare, but a mint one will always interest collectors).

The Mitchell - £40, maybe £50

Have a look here for some examples:

http://www.bonefishadventure.com/vintagetackle/

As for the rods, not sure. The smaller pike-type rods don't sound very collectable, so maybe £30 or so.

However I think the Aspindales are more sought-after and are of a length that is very useable. There are some Aeros listed here (website is about 3 years out of date though):

http://www.interalpha.net/customer/cane-rods/

(see his list of rods) but it seems the market isn't quite as it was for cane rods so I'd be guessing maybe £150-£200 in good condition?

I'm not an expert though, so I'd certainly seek professional advice.

the mitchell unless boxed wont get you a very good price ,its the boxes that add the value ,the very early ones with the boomerang anti reverse levers are the ones to look out for.the ambidexes are expensive with boxes though especially the earlier humped back ones.
this is a site thats proud of its ancestry unfortunatly not complete but better than nowt:

That's always the dealer price Dave, on eBay they seem to have dropped in price to less than £200 (well, last I looked).

It's their Hardy Wallis I quite fancy...
