I think the reason that commercials get bad press is the concern for fish welfare with re stocking density.

I'll answer your question, with a question. Have you ever seen those fairground "Hook a Duck" games? You just can't fail.

Comes down to personal preference I think. It's a fantastic past-time but I can't see/understand why you would go to certain commercial fisheries and fish literally pole tip to pole tip with the person across the pond from you. That isn't to say they all are like that. Or another point of view.. There are less people fishing in my neighbors garden.

Then to play devils advocate.. if you wanted to introduce someone to fishing and you wanted them to have a good time would you consider it? I think I might and that would be the only time I would.

Rivers on the other hand.. Has to be the experience. I've seen foxes, martins (or mink), kingfishers, hummingbirds, swimming squirrels, and most importantly not a single person.

Not sure I can answer why the bad publicity but I'm sure someone will.

Well I for one simply just enjoy fishing, I fish rivers, club waters and "commercials"

I feel theres nothing wrong with a WELL RUN commercial fishery, on the other hand I do not enjoy the "moon crater" or "hole in the ground" type fishery, theres more to a good fishery than a hole full of water and fish !

Venues like Old Bury Hill and Tingrith show how a fishery can be run commercially and still be pleasing to the eye and interesting to fish. I'm not going to name any bad ones as I don't want my post deleted biggrin.gif

They are good to have a practice when the rivers are in flood though!!
We are not allowed near the Lower Severn when it's in flood.
