sticklebacks aren't much good for any type of fishing. Even perch would think twice about eating one of the spiney blighters. If you want to catch pike you will need bigger bait, even a whole mackrel can be used! Budgie has the right idea. Pike ain't easy to handle so someone experienced on the bank would be a great help. Almost all anglers who have fished for pike have a few scars to prove it. Im no exception, those teeth and gill plates are like razors.

Your posts are getting more and more frantic, Nathan... and you don't half hop about between topics! Good luck in your pike quest: don't let the other posters put you off. I reckon pike are just about the most stupid (or, at least, the least suspicious) fish in British freshwaters. Freeline a deadbait with a bite-alarm, or float-fish (don't just leave a line out while you do something else), and strike early to avoid the risk of deep-hooking. Have some really long forceps and check on how to hold a pike to make it open it's mouth. You shouldn't have any trouble catching one or two (remember that they don't shoal).Ive had my best results, recently, from putting the deadbait under the tips of overhanging tree branches that are nearly touching the water. It's probably the shadows that the pike are using to stay concealed. I'm sure you will let us know how you got on!

That's nonsense. Perch and Jack-Pike love Sticklebacks, as do Trout. I know this from personal experience because I've used them to good effect. Also, I don't know if you've ever used a marrow spoon but that item alone, tells me that the humble Stickleback is a firm favourite of all 3 species.
I can't really speak for other species since I live in Scotland but I,m fairly certain that a Chub or a Schoolie Zander would happily scoff a Stickle.
Books once suggested that spiney, armoured, muscly, Perch were unsavoury to Pike. That we know is crap and Perch are far better suited to repelling the clutches of predatory fish than some squidgy little snack like the Stickleback.
Get yourself a Minnow trap together Nathan. Catch yourself some Sticklebacks and fish them live, under a float, amongst some Perch.
