Was back in Scotland recently; had great pleasure in discovering a new(to me) shop in Hamilton:-

http://www.theanglersemporium.com/

Very impressive - stock is very good, well-kept bait, great opening hours and knowledgeable guys in there. Well worth checking out if you're in the area.

Jim.

Check the prices of the banksticks....something's amiss there.

Don,t know about banksticks or if this is a promototional stunt but the shop has come on leaps and bounds in the past wee while,it also helps that one of the staff has a good all round knowledge of the coarse scene.

there are at last some decent shops ....just not in Perth. At least Stirling/pitlochry has people who have an interest and knowledge in a variety of types of fishing , not just salmon.God how i hate a certain shop in perth. Thankfully , its a dying breed.

Went into a tackle shop in Dumfries the one thats on the road that fronts the river. I asked about bait(maggotts)and coarse venues locally. This is what I was told "Sir , this is a game fishing shop if you want anything like that you'd better go round the corner and speak to them up there"
Bit rich I thought seeing as how they had a number of coarse rods and reels for sale.
If theyre a dying breed then they're taking some time to expire

I take your point....I just tried to look on the bright side...
What about thre WORST tackle shop you've ever been in....mine has to be the old Crockarts in Stirling. Served by women who knew absolutely NOTHING about fishing, the bloke there wasn't interested unless you were there to buy a Hardy outfit. Crap service crap attitude, the pits. I opened a bottle when it closed.Hope it went out of business, didn't deserve to exist.

I forget the name of the one your talking about brian but i have been in it on a couple of occasions. Its exactly as you say regarding it being a "gamefishing"only shop.Thankfully it is indeed a dying breed who don,t cater for the all rounder and its there loss.If you carry on up the vennel to "them up there" you will find a far more coarse friendly atmos with live and deadbaits available.

i think if you check the history of that shop you will find that it was primarily a gun shop with fishing gear a secondary interest there were one of Scotland's finest gun shops until the dunblane school murder's then things went into decline..

it don't matter what name is on the Tackle
its the way you use it that catches the fish

Papa
Youre right about the shop up the alley. We went there and found it to be a much more angler oriented shop and one I would definatly use again.
In to Dumfries , round to the little car park and straight to the little shop for real anglers.
It's good sometimes to give praise when its warranted and I hope they go from strength to strength. If ever you go in there please feel free to re-tell this tale
