Quite a few set lines has been found on Southport And District AA waters this are crude devices twine with a line of large baited hooks weighed down with stones and pegged under water so please be extra vigiliant and inform other clubs in the area.

If 'crude' is a problem, Here are some nice ones and the prices are very reasonable.
Note that Trot Lines or Trotlines is US speak for what you call set lines. [ 14. Interesting nomenclature Newt - in the UK these are known as setlines in a freshwater context, but when as a youth I used to set them in the sea, they were known as trotlines.
Last time I was involved with trotlines was with a bunch of Texan rascals on the Nueces River. We were trying to locate alligator gar, baiting with gizzard shad, and spending the night doing the rounds of about a dozen sets, but all we got were loads of catfish and a freshwater drum or two. Quite legal in Texas (subject to a number of restrictions and bag limits) but illegal in UK freshwaters. -------------------- Vagabond.

Legal in North Carolina too Vagabond but I did sorta figure they would be frowned upon in UK fresh water.
I guess I'd have to say, "The Devil made me post that link." -------------------- "Democracy dies when the people wanting their government to take care of them outnumber those wanting to take care of themselves." - Author Unknown - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - For a selection of lures, reels and other items, visit my eBay shop http://stores.ebay.com/JaNewt-eMart |

The fish they should leave alone. Though I'm a bird watcher I'd be happy if they took a Canada goose or two !

Has Peter Collins got relatives in the N West?.
The trouble with this kind of thing is that the more its reported the more the lunatic fringe who shoulnt be referred to as anglers try it out. Some like Collins have a hatred of predators in the water and try and remove them and other who steal fish tether the fish with bungee type ropes that tire fish out, carp being their target as large fish are worth a great deal of cash |

Worse than cormorants for building up high populations if the are protected in a certain area.
