The image upload facility that I've installed here costs me money.

I'm under the impression that not all of the files uploaded are being used on Anglers' Net.

There are ways that these files can be 'watermarked', or even just 'stamped' with whatever I want. i.e the AN url

Does anyone know how to do this?

tia,

Elton

PS Any objections to me deleting files after a set time? Say, 4 weeks?

Actually, a facility to restrict viewing to certain domains would be good...

What type of server is anglersnet hosted on? if it's a standard unix / linux and apache type server you could use the .htacces file to restrict access on an IP address basis.

Put a .htaccess into the directory the images are stored in that only allows the IP adddress of the anglersnet server to access it. The images could then only be used on Anglersnet

Tutorial and example at

So, do I really just need to add the following type line to the .htaccess file?

allow from 217.8.240.39

To be honest I've only used .htaccess to set up passworded access myself, so I'd suggest trying it on a test directory first so you can experiment without buggering anything up ;-)

but reading through that tutorial yes that appears to be all you need

What about the photos folk send to eachother via pm, have you thought of those?
Maybe that's where some are being used but not showing up on the site??????????

When I send my pornos to the ANMCPWR they certainly don't want to be shown on the froums. biggrin.gif

What I'd really like it to do is show an Anglers' Net logo if called from another site

again I suspect the .htaccess file is the answer, anyone trying to access the images from another IP should get a 403 forbidden error.

If you set up a customer error message page with the AN logo on it that's what they'll see!

Elton,

Slow morning at work, so I've been playing with our test server ;-)

I think something like this is what you'd need in the .htaccess file to restrict the images to just the AN server. You'll probably also need to leave a blank line at the end of the file - little quirk of the system!

Mat

<Limit GET>
order deny,allow
deny from all
allow from 217.8.240.39
</Limit>
