This was taken a bit north of where I live. Looks like the fishing there probably isn't too great right now.

As long as I can get to the river and the water temp is good then that's just how I like it, perfect for winter barbel.

Bit coloured! But yes, if you know where the fish are likely to hold up then it can be good.

You will be amazed at what you can catch in these conditions. I have had many big Barbel in these sort of conditions. Never let these conditions put you off, give them a go.

LOL - you guys crack me up. I posted this flooded creek picture as a joke and you proceed to tell me how to fish the thing. Proving, I suppose, that UK anglers can adapt to a wide range of conditions and catch fish where I'd never have dreamed about it being possible. Awesome.

Only problem I can see is that AFAIK, the nearest barbel is about 3000 miles east of the US Atlantic coast.

And I thought you Americans were tough!

A good flood can dislodge food and that brings many fish onto the feed.

Had it the other way round today. W.S.W winds of force six to nine have kept water out of the Broads system. Consequently the tide has been very low. The rough, and shallow Broad where I live, waves 2 to 3 feet high at one point, is really coloured, great for spinners!!! The bonus has been that fish have been funnelled into predictable areas. It's been an ebb tide pretty much all day, and I have had everything on my side!! Because of the low tide the local public slipway was unuseable so I had all the hotspots to myself!! Who's been a lucky boy then?!

Perhaps we had guessed your posting was a joke, Newt ! But we don't let a little bit of flood water put us off. Hardy breed us Brits!!

dont know of barbel but i bet you can get some nice cats in those conditions.here in florida i cant wait till high water, less crowded and better fishing.but only seems to be good for cats and bluegills, nothing else seems to bite in flooded conditions.lake/pond fishing when flooded is ok if you can get to where they are at.I have actually got bass o bite in a flooded road beside the river once.but when you post on a forum theres going to be some one able to tell you how to catch something someplace somewhere somehow.i love these things!no barbel here but heres tench and rudd and roach stocked here in places in usa. rach and chub were by accident from spilled or thrown in bait buckets.
are barbel somewhat like u.s. catfish in habit?

Yeah, i will fish no matter what the conditions except for electrical thunderstorms(graphite/carbon rods conduct electric!!!ouch)Ive even fished with outside temp at 0farenheit.and ice fished when i lived up north. but if you ask the average american they'd say most uk anglers are soft with all their kit they have to have.LOL.but it is counterbalanced with those marathon fishing sessions you guy do.!!! ive fished in near hurricane coditions!but i am a little off as i have been told.live to fish and fish to live.
