Hi All

I am new to Anglers Net and only started up fishing again in August last year after not fishing for many years. One of my friends talked me into going to a Sunday afternoon session. I only caught 1 fish a Rudd on a boilie but it was enough to get me hooked again.

I am keen to do some spring time fishing and I am looking for new waters to try out. I am thinking about getting a RMC spring permit for the Hooks Marsh Lake in Waltham Abbey or maybe the 2 Fishers Green lakes.

Does any one have experience of fishing any of these lakes and have any advice on which may be the better option to choose.

Most of my experience of still water fishing from years ago was on much smaller venues. Therefore I was a bit concerned that these large waters may be hard to tackle early in the year.

Any advice anyone can give me on best species to target and methods to use in the spring will be gratefully received.

Many Thanks

Stephen

i dont fish those gravel pits, but my mates do,from what i know mate they are hard work, cormarant predation has wiped out a lot of small fish, however there are some big tench in there bream too, carp, very big water, lots of it you cant fish.lot of natural food in there doesnt help the fishing either.

Thanks for the welcome to AN. Any information you can get get from your mate will be most welcome. Cormarants do seem to have become a bit of a problem in the years I have been away from fishing.

I seem to remember that seeing one years ago as being a bit of a novelty.

Hi Jedi Bond.

I have received the glossy coloured book of dreams from RMC, to quote it " The old River Lea at Fishers Green is a barbal and chub angler's paradise, offering river angling of the highest posssible quality ".

Sounds excellant but not much use in the closed season which the Spring Permit covers sad.gif They dont say much about any of the lakes.

PS. When can you next give me a lift fishing, I have some new camo kit to try out smile.gif

The two lakes at either end of fishers green are heartbreak city. Only the most dedicated anglers catch there. however, if you are a very experienced and totally obsessed angler the rewards are there especilly for tench well into double figures. however, prepare for many blanks if you still want to fish there. A better bet might be HOLYFIELD FISHERY which is in fishers green lane. check it out at:

Thanks for the info Peter, I will bear this in mind. I may wait until the summer and maybe give them a try then, as I had planned to get a permit for the main fishing season to try out the river section.

Holyfield looks interesting.

Cheers

Stephen
