Two days pikefishing on the canal, and I was so sure I'd have a few, I even cleared the memory card on the digital camera!
Well, yesterday, the canal was frozen solid until a couple of boats went through, at about 11 am: no early start then.... and no fish either. Today looked much more promising but, an hour after setting up, a narrowboat comes roaring along, somehow snags my line, even though I'm legering a deadbait. Seeing the boat would have to stop in about a hundred yards, I picked up the rod and ran along the towpath behind the boat. All would have been well, but for a low bush beside the towpath: the result being loss of the top six inches of my best piking rod! I'm fed up! Anyone got any Christmas cheer?

I had a good day on the canal on Sunday except for nearly freezing to the spot, left thermal boots and over trousers in the garage at home!
Makes up realise how warm thermal boots are when you don't have them.

2 weeks and it will all be over:)

Don't feel too bad Pangolin. I went out on sunday, overnight and it lashed it down with rain. I was fishing next to a ford and the depth marker read 3'. Around 5am i decided to get a couple of hours kip before dawn. Woke up at 7.30 with water lapping the door of the car. (Quick reverse). On returning to my swim, I found all my bait gone, boxes floated downstream and seat etc in 1' of water! Had to wade up to my knees to retrieve keep net! Needless to say I blanked, needless to say I packed up and went home with the depth marker reading 5.5' at the ford!
