Does anyone have anything good to say about Drennan double strength line. i tried it a few years ago and thought it not as strong as the makers claimed and felt normal five pound line was better. however, my angling skill was not as good as it is now and i was thinking of trying it again. what do people think?

I tried it and didn't like it, I prefer some stretch.

Many of the problems experienced with this line were caused by anglers substituting their own (say) 5lb line with 5lb D/S.

The main marketing idea was that you fished D/S by diameter and not B/S, so you should replace your normal mono with a D/S of similar diameter and then you will be fishing with stronger line for a similar diameter.

It all seemed a bit pointless to me.

I found it broke too easy, is that due to lack of streach?

I'd say it's a common problem with pre-stretched line.

I have only used it in the higher b/s and have no problems with it. I have since moved on to fluorocarbon and most of my fishing is done with this and only use double strength now and again. Btw I use wychwood fluoro in high breaking strains and it is cracking stuff. I use mirage in low diameters and am really pleased with that

I suspect that you may have hit the nail on the head smile.gif i am better at playing fish now than last time i used it which is why i was thinking of trying it again. is it best as a hooklink or do you reccomend using it as a main line?

I havn't used it for some time now, but it was always my first choice of cast material when flyfishing, particularly in coloured water. Never had a problem with it and still have some here.
