16lb 6oz common carp, my new biggest canal common and what a beauty it was. Getting closer to my ambition of a 20lb canal fish, for a moment I thought i'd done it.

Guess what, this idiot forgot to take his digi-cam.

Nice one Anthony

Having no camera with you is VERY frustrating.
My old Canon A1 sureshot packed up the day I had a 5lb chub last month -

After replacing it with a digital, I went out and bought another A1 sureshot ! At only £90 from Jessops it is light enough carry even on roving-for-chub trips AND is waterproof (to over 10m depth) so I can endure rain, or even fall in the river ( biggrin.gif )without harming the camera. Useful on sea trips also, where there is a danger of spray coming aboard.

A very nice canal fish, hope you get your 20 soon.

Cheers - It was a long and lean fish hence me thinking it was pushing up to 20 as it broke the surface. Never mind, this year hopefully.

I did actually get a couple of snaps, my fishing buddy had his old film camera lurking at the bottom of his bag, so not sure if they will come out.

Vagabond - I like it. Back a bit, back a bit more....splash! lol

Ratty - Scaled down carp gear, single hook baits with a small pva bag of my own pellet mix. The magic hookbait was a..........rounded-off cube of "The Simpsons" hotdog sausage!

Well done. A few seasons ago now I had a mini-campaign on a local canal that basically does not contain any, or at least any known to man. biggrin.gif

However, I managed to locate a few. Nothing special, but just great to catch as no-one else had been that route (to my knowledge).

I had a few in the 7-9lb bracket and then one night when I caught a scraper 10, well, I was over the moon. Not a monster fish, but the satisfaction level was high. smile.gif

Yep, I know what you mean regarding satisfaction. Canal fishing for big fish (well, big for a canal), that have most likely never been caught before, is a big passion of mine. I'm quite lucky as I very rarely see another angler at the stretches I fish.

A few of my canal PB's:

Mirror carp - 16lb 9oz
Common carp - 16lb 6oz
Chub - 4lb 15oz
Zander - 5lb 2oz
Eel - 4lb 0oz
