Do any of you use hand held GPS units? Or is there no use for them since banking fishing is the most common method of fishing?

Thanks

I think they are BRILLIANT! And pretty cheap nowadays. They have all sorts of uses including finding hidden venues !

My verdict: GET ONE!

JT - I can see a great chance for an angler who gets one of the new wireless sonar rigs (you cast the sonar head with rod/reel) and also uses a hand held GPS to mark the location of underwater features, "it's directly out from here rather than 6 feet to the left or 8 feet to the right". Either use the sonar to map the water & features or else use the sonar to investigate known "hot spots" to see what is down there that holds fish.

http://www.basspro.com and search for smartcast for the wireless echo sounder. I don't know of any other source for them at this time.

If you haven't ordered much from the US and live in the UK, plan on £1 final cost for each $1 of listed price. That is usually how it works out with VAT, shipping, etc.

Early reports from US anglers who have bought the units are good. Look Here.

Hand held GPS receiver - there are probably good UK sources for them but if not, the same web site and search for GPS. All sorts of units from hand held to those built into the better echo sounders. Prices range from around $150 and up.
