Have heard that only this week that certain lakes have been sent a letter saying that they will no longer be allowed to have night fishing on them, one of these being Harefield lake and the BCAC qualifier at Walthamstow has also been told that it cannot go ahead....

Anyone confirm this ?

I would be very surprised if it's true but I'll keep my eyes peeled for details. As for the BCAC championships, it was mentioned that walthamstow 1 may be being drained & de-carped .

Such bans are in the pipeline on parts of the Broads, and its anglers' own fault. If they went fishing, and just fishing then all would be just fine. But, for many it is just an excuse to laugh and shout and swear, the dreaded F-word being every other effing word, and sound, especially swearing, travels over water like it was going out of fashion. Add to that copiously draining of a bevvy or two or three, and the subsequant need to urinate, sometimes right besides a moored boat. Then there is the apparent need to create a mass of mess, to dump the empty lager cans, the residue of take-aways and barbecues, to behave in a generally anti-social manner. Well, need I go on? Who should we blame, the owners or the anglers? A sad state of affairs of our own making  ohmy.gif  ohmy.gif  ohmy.gif  ohmy.gif

I have to agree with you Peter, I get the right hump when I have to spend time cleaning up a swim before I can set up and start fishing, follow the country code take your litter home with you, and p-ss up a tree away from the swims.
I don't drink booze when i'm fishing how can you land a fish safely when your full of booze, i've seen so called anglers rush out of their shelters when one of the alarms go of fall a-rs over head and land up on top of the pod, then they wonder why they blank so often.
If your going fishing go to fish not to f-ck about, don,t spoil it for other people.
Keep it clean.
Catch you later.

I had to read your post 3 times before I understood it. Many others wouldn't even had bothered. But then old fogeys like me aren't conversant with mobile phone language!

Can I ask on behalf of all the other dinosaurs on here that you use plain English? You'll benefit then as more people will read your message, which is of course the reason we all post here. smile.gif

I read a thread recently, where some Carpers were openly bragging about poaching SSSI's & then going to great lengths to justify their actions! The worry for me is they are very upfront about it, & take a laddish & arrogant attitude towards any criticiscm.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that, when problems crop up & people begin to investigate them, they then gain a certain view of Carp fishing that is not to our credit.

I love Carp fishing, but feel these Carpers & their 'heroes' will ultimately harm the sport they profess to love.

Perhaps this present problem is indicative of this.

Peter, it isn't only carpers who cause problems, some pikers can be a real problem. The Broads Authority has a growing file of quite serious complaints against anglers, for their blatently anti social and laddish / yobbish behaviour. It is a situation that is NOT helping the image of anglers and is certainly causing problems for Broadland anglers and loosing us access.

The Broads Authority listens to us anglers, but with clear reservations that are used against us, thanks to the yob element.

I'm involved with both our local angling consultative and the local Broads users consultative. I hear what is said by other users, I sometimes feel like giving up in despair when I hear of some of the complaints, complaints that I know are only too true.  ohmy.gif ohmy.gif

Sadly, of that I have no doubt.

I'm not sure why but every Sunday atleast two mystery tour coaches go along my road. Have done for years. No one famous lives here, nor ever has done. Real mystery as to why. Lots of little old grey haired ladies, all clutching the seat in front of them, all admiring the houses, except mine which is a typical anglers house, it needs painting and the garden is a shambles.

This past Sunday was probably the last time they will ever do it though! A party of fellow pikers stood outside my house, talking as fellow pikers do! Effing this, effing that, effing great thing came off at the effing net, effing thirty pound if it was an effing ounce! Why do anglers swear so much? Yea, we've all been there, you know what I mean! Yes, they must have heard us, it had been a great days fishing, a good laugh. But it was how they must have seen us that made me smile! What a smart lot we were!

Okay, so a few matchmen have their natty colour co-ordinated blue Halkon Hunts on; no, thats not Cockney slang. You might see a carp angler, or two, with pressed creases in their Real Tree strides. But for most of us, sartorial elegance is not part of yer average angler's make-up, or is it? I have an American book that shows a typical American angler. Its called The Ultralight Angler and, on the cover, is an angler in natty, matching primrose yellow shorts and shirt! Not dressed as yer actual average UK angler might be.

My mate Trev was there, fashionably showing his exceedingly ample bare midriff over the top of his jeans, noticeably with the zip still down! Big Charlie was dressed in a subtle green drab outfit, a tad undersize, that hadn't seen a washing machine in years, if ever. Brian, well, even the Sally Anne charity shop would have rejected his outfit had he donated it. He still had his pyjamma top on under his 'lucky' jumper, a garment with more holes than wool in it. Collin was obviously a would be 'action man', a surplus store junkey if ever there was. Paul stood there, in his green fluffy baby-grow, a fine figure of dyslexic manhood. His hair clearly untouched by comb or brush. As for the array of hats! Ha, anglers hats!! Our first group piking session of the year. They had had since March 14 to sort themselves out for heavens sakes!

Is this just an 'older pike angler' thing? Or are the majority of us old gits just oblivious to the influence of the fashion world when it comes to our clothing? In the main our tackle has to be just right, but our clothing! Oh dear! Sandra Halkon Hunt has a very, very long way to go.
