Hi has anyone fished this venue in Lincs?
Would appreciate any info on the water as I am fishing it on Tuesday.
What works best feeder for the Bream or pole for the silver fish?
Thanks for any advice
Kev

I never fish the water but the best tactic I have used when fishing for Bream fishing or silver fish in any reservoir is this.

When I used to do a lot of Bream fishing on my local reservoir, I tend to used an quivertip rod of 12ft or 13ft depending on what model or make you do have. The main reel was loaded with 5lb B.S with a Peter Drennan Gripmesh 32grams Feeder with sometimes either a short or long hoolenght again depending on what the bites are like - either fast or slow and the hooklenght of 4lb B.S. with either a size 14 hook or a size 12 hook.

The best mix of groundbait was a simple brown crumbs with some layer mash or (chicken feed to you) with some loose hookbait which could be anything as sweetcorn, maggots, redworms and so on. On my reservoir it was a triple yellow maggots on the hook as one was threaded up the shank of the hook and the other two was just normal hooking them. Again most Bream angler will say red maggots, redworms and so on.

As mixing the groundbait you need to end up the groundbait as nice and fluffy. The trick is to cast in the same place to build up a carpet of food on the bed.

When Bream fishing it is best to take a target board with you as the bite could be missable.

Best of luck Kev and let us know how you got on.

Never fished it - supposed to be one of the best bream venues in Lincolnshire though.

I am guessing it's the old problem with bream and resevoirs though and that's hitting a shoal and getting them into the feed. I suspect it could take quite a lot of bait being thrown in initially, and perhaps a very early morning.

Apparently the venue has some good Pike if it's a leisure trip then maybe worth having some snap tackle, a few plugs, maybe the odd deadbait...

Must give it a visit - I only live 25 miles away!!

I have fished it a nimber of times over the years, first in 1963. a magic place, quiet, peacefull, suronded by an estate woods, full of deer and pheasants, godd concrete pegs, built by prisoner of war labour. it was built to supply water for Boston, but no longer for that use. dose lose some water level in summer for agricultural irrigation.
I have fished for bream different ways over the years, used to be catapult out about 2 lbs of sweet corn, and fish the lead with 5 grains on a size 8, and wait, this still picks up tench and bream, cast about a bit and find the runs of weed free water.
last time I was there, groudbait was banned, but could be used in the open feeder.
pike been out to 27 lbs, but I must be there in poor pike conditions, seen some caught late in the year, and know someone who had a 24, but not much to my rods.
you do have to park up, and walk to your swim, the gamekeeper will be round for your duea, no fishing on sundays, it used to be match day?
regards,
dave e b

Thanks for the advice lads. We are just having a friendly practice match there Tuesday so the pike wont be on the agenda but will try for them on a pleasure day. The two lads I spoke to at the venue said that it was pole for silver fish but I had heard there was bream and tench in there. So I will try the advice of Dave and Andrew and hopefully get a few. But as has been said it looks a lovely venue so wont be too bad even if I dont get many bites. Will let you know how I get on and as its only about 7 mile from my house I think I will give it a few visits in my own time.
Cheers again for the advice
Kev
