NI-CD = NiCad = Nickle-Cadmium battery
NI-MH = Nickel-Metal Hydride battery. Newer design. Does not have the "memory" problems the NiCad ones did. You can charge it whenever and not screw the battery up. With the old NiCads, if you ran them down half way and then charged a few times, they would decide that the charge-point was all they had and you would lose half the capacity of the battery. As to the charging part, be careful. Ni-Cd battery and Ni-Mh battery require different sensors to shut off the charger power. When a Ni-Cd battery gets to be fully charged, Right after it peaks, The power will drop. The Ni-Cd charger will sense that drop, then it will shut off the power. But when a Ni-Mh battery gets to fully charged, It will stay on that level, and it gets hotter and hotter, So most the Ni-Mh battery chargers count on temperature sensor or power sensor to shut off. Otherwise, you may get a fire. So make sure you tell the charger which type of battery you are charging if it has such a setting. Otherwise, there will be an automatic sensor of some sort that will know. NI-MH is recommended for use in electronic devices. Also has longer life per charge and more re-charges before it craps out. The cadmium in the NI-CD is a disposal problem too. Hazardous. NI-MH is not. BTW - I use re-chargable batteries whenever I can - for items that are used frequently. Save bunches of money. For instance, one of my fish finders runs on 8 D-cell batteries. I have had it for 4 years now. I get two trips per set of re-chargable batteries or 4 trips per set of regular ones. I paid around $5 each for the batteries but I've just started on my second set so the originals lasted me over 3 years and I would otherwise have been buying 8 regular batteries every 2-3 weeks. |

Good stuff.
Glad you got the latest and greatest (well - pretty much) batteries. There are some newer sorts but way expensive for me. I like the NI-MH ones myself. |

Newt
Silly question but do these new NI-MH batteries suffer the same problem as nicads i.e 1.25 volts instead of 1.5 Thanks |

I am not Newt, but yes they are 1.25v..BUT..they keep their power right up to the end not like ordinary ones which gradually lose power.
