Thought you might enjoy seeing what US carpers sometimes contend with. Slightly worse than signal crayfish IMO.

Here

None very big but all very mean. biggrin.gif

I'm interested to know where the feller in the 3rd shot has a finger hold. Is he getting some of his own back?

I'm afraid I need a nature lesson here. I thought Snapping Turtles had an almighty bite. How did those Carpers land the beasties without steel leaders?

I have seen quite a few turtles in the Regants canal in London. put in by pet owners who got bored with thier pets.

Apparently they like pizza and are named after Classic Italian artists.

kleinboet - their jaws are awesome crushing machines. But no teeth and a fairly smooth jaw so if the thing decides to come toward you, it's very possible that something as small as your line will survive the experience.

And given that they are fearless (nothing else in the water can harm a larger one), they often decide to come directly in - maybe in hopes of killing whatever is annoying them.

Many are lost to break-off/cut-off but you can certainly expect to land some.
