That rod isn’t going to cope with Pike and it probably isn’t a very useful rod anyway. A spinning rod should be a comfortable extension of your arm. You want something that will point a lure in the direction you want it, with the minimum of fuss. It shouldn’t be something that will eventually lead to stress or unhappiness. There’s nothing worse than using a tool you hate.
The rod doesn’t have to be terribly expensive. Ron Thompson do a range of rods called “Steelheads”, available all over the place. If you have to fish for pike you really want something heavier than you’d use for perch and trout for instance. The 9 foot 15-40 gram version should be adequate for throwing plugs and spoons. They usually come in at about 28 quid. It’s a good rod for introducing yourself to lures.
The reel has to be quite sturdy but again it doesn’t have to cost the earth. Okuma Interceptors come in at £29 and they are pretty good reels. They do exactly what is asked of them and they feel pretty comfy. It also has a freespool function on it which is handy. If you move to full size Pike rods for dead baiting, the size 50 will be adequate. 15Lb Daiwas Sensor is pretty good line and it’s cheap. You get 925 m for £6.99. That should fill your reel 3 times over.
£64 sounds pretty good to me. Best to spend the cash on a decent outfit and be glad at the end of the day.

Yep it's the right variety but I don't think those actual traces will be very good. They seem too cheap to be of any quality to be honest. I'm not sure though. Maybe someone else is more familiar with them.

A complete set of rod, reel, line, spinners box etc for a fiver has got to be not worth bothering with. It will be an unusable solid fibreglass rod with tin ferrules and naff kit for that money.

First you have to ask yourself what you intend to catch. The rod that you first pointed to with a start price of £12 will do nicely for trout, chub and perch but its too light for pike. If you intend to fish for pike then you need a bit of extra gear. Wire traces, unhooking mat and decent long nosed pliers for a start. More than that you need to know how to handle these fish safely.

With respect, looking at your level of experience of lure fishing its difficult to know where to start when it comes to advice. I would not at this stage advise you to buy anything until you've got some idea about what you intend to fish for and then understand how all of the bits of tackle go together.

I'd first advise that you read as much as you can about the basics of lure fishing, Charlie Bettell's book 'The Art of Lure Fishing' would be a good place to start. It'll give you a good idea about what lure fishing is all about and what kind of kit that you need. Even if you just type in 'lure fishing' in your browser, it'll bring up a wealth of information, most of which will be worth a read. Try to find yourself someone who goes lure fishing in your part of the world (Leeds ?) Anyone out there from the Leeds area that has some time to spare to show this guy the ropes?

Dont be in a hurry to rush out and buy something, thats the easy bit. Knowing what you are going to do with it when you get it is a little more complicated.

probably a look at http://www.bosfish.com would serve a purpose in giving you a generall hint of the prices ,you can then search for more pocket freindly prices elsewhere.
