Hi,
I've done a bit of fly fishing for trout, but would like to try sea fishing. Are there any sea fishing clubs in the Dunfermline area that could help a 47-year old kid get started? Or anyone here? Ta, Mike |

Mike there are clubs in Rosyth, South Queensferry and Kirkcaldy - i'll see if I can dig out more info if no one else can. I know that Raffles bar ( Chalmers St ) have outings but I don't know if its an actual club.
===EDIT=== The Rosyth club is civil service - try here for the others http://www.trace.i12.com/clubs/scottish.htm I'm in the Lothian Sea Anglers - we fish around Scotland and meet near Ratho - if thats any help [ 20. August 2004, 05:29 PM: Message edited by: KennyC ] -------------------- Kenny

When do you meet? I don't mind driving a bit to get some fishing. I'll also try a couple of the clubs on the list near here.
Thanks Mike |

Well I got started
I found the mark near the power station west of Culross on Saturday. 4 teenagers where fishing, but with no sucess, 4 other guys turned up as the tide came in. Eventually one of them caught a small bass. I might have had a knock on a spoon, but not really sure. On Sunday I went back in the evening and fished from about 6pm to 8.30pm. On my own. There was quite a strong Easterly blowing, so I thought there'd be a few people there, but I was on my own. Perhaps there are better places to fish an evening tide in an Easterly... Anyway I caught a bass, an undersized one, but a start anyway. Caught on white feathers with a red head. I'd tried a jelly sandeel, a spoon and a spinner before the feathers. |

Mike access to that mark has been restricted - due to someone badly damaging a knee ( twisting it in the mud )and had to get airlifted by helicopter!. The Forth is a bit hit and miss - South Queensferry can produce flounder and odd coalie/eel - Granton breakwater ( Edinburgh ) has a better of codling and mackerel - I'm not too clued up on the Fife side yet!

Kenny, I wonder if I get restricted from my garden. It's getting quite muddy
I went along to Burntisland after work yesterday. I'd been told that mackerel could be caught there and to watch out for the seal that would try to steal fish off the line. Just as I arrived one guy landed a nice sized mackerel so I was hopeful. The seal was there patrolling off the east harbour wall. After about an hour the seal got bored and went off to find some better fishermen. Four of us where fishing with feathers and the only thing caught was a sand eel that went for one guy's feathers. Must of been almost as big as the feather! |

Know what you mean
I was thinking of growing my own rice If the mackerel are a bit thin on the ground, try using a silver lure - such as an ABU Koster/Toby. It gives them something to 'see' especially if the water isn't crytsal clear. -------------------- Kenny
