I realise that this has probably been covered in previous topics, but I got caught unawares by a phone call today, so here goes....

Where would you say is the most exotic place to fish? Somewhere where the rich and famous might choose to wet a line.

The most exotic is not necessarily where you will find the rich and famous, as it may be too far from a cocktail bar. My own personal top spot was fishing for tiger fish at dusk in the Okavango delta in Botswana (hooked two, landed one). Had to move off sharpish as both alligators and hippos started taking an interest in what we were doing. At the same camp a couple of days later, a black mamba killed a chamaeleon right by the open-air bar Now THAT's exotic!!

Yup, gotta agree with that neck of the woods - there are some extremely expensive camps around in that area. If you specifically want fishing though you're better off going to the specialists which tend to be not quite so exclusive. Ichingo Chobe River Lodge on the tip of Caprivi in Namibia is very good. Jeremy Paxman was there just before us and caught a record bream on the fly. John Wilson also goes here out of choice so it can't be that bad. Royal Zambezi Lodge in Zambia is also excellent, and they have a sister camp nearby inside the national park that's even better for game viewing. So a 2 centre holiday in these 2 satisfies all needs.

Hmmm - just noticed this is the the sea fishing forum. Can't say I'm too up on sea fishing, but there must be plenty of 5 star hotels littered around the world that offer big game fishing for rediculous amounts of money. Weather that counts as exotic I'm not too sure. Perhaps somewhere like The Gambia, Venezuela or Belize would count more as exotic.

For big game fishing Cabo san Lucas (Baja California, on the Pacific coast of Mexico) takes a lot of beating - it has VERY expensive hotels, but Norma and I stayed in an economy-priced self-catering small flat, and concentrated our big spending on three days marlin fishing.

Marlin fishing usually costs an arm and a leg - but in Cabo, it's just a leg

The result? Ten striped marlin over 100 lb each (best two just about 200 each) in three days, including six on the third day, which was about as exotic as one could wish for.

Marlin fishing is just out of this world - like surreal. It's something any angler should try to do at least once in a lifetime and hang the cost.

Marlin fishing usually costs an arm and a leg - but in Cabo, it's just a leg     I fished off of San Diego for Tuna (dont know what type) and caught a Barracuda We were on my uncles yacht, which was pretty rubbish to fish off, big huge mast etc. But what a great day. I have also had trout in Oregan below Mt Shasta, now that was fantastic.As you say you only have one life, so just do it. Geez, I know lottery millionaires who wouldnt spend £50 on a days Skate fishing with us, saying its too bl***y expensive.

The most exotic place? Not quite sure that exotic is the right word, but if it means exciting and unpredictable, then the place has to be Norwegian Bay on the North West Cape in Western Australa. It can only be accessed by sea or four wheel drive and to do it in the motor you have to traverse sand dunes oner 100 feet high with fearsome wind scours. When you get there though, it is one of those places you dream of. A big fish take every cast, and while snorkelling I have seen trevally in excess of 70lbs! As there is the debris of an old whaling station which was destroyed in a cyclone there, most of the big hook-ups finish up in tears, but it is always good to hook big fish whether you lose them or not. Sadly, the area is now a marine sanctuary and no fishing is allowed there. It is certainly the kind of place all anglers dream of, and I am just pleased that I was able to experience it. While I am sad that it has become a sanctuary, I feel that fisheries have got it right. All to often fishing is banned in places that have become almost sterile. On this occasion, (and others in Western Australia) the conservation has been applied where there are ample stocks to ensure good breeding programmes.

Most exotic place to fish?
Must surely be off the back of the Sultan of Bruneis` gin palace when docked at Tilbury???
