I've posted this on a couple of other Forums but, as yet, have received no replies. I hope the Anglers Net crew can help!

A friend of mine is taking her 15 year old son to France very soon. He is a keen angler and wants to go fishing. BUT: does he need a licence? What is it called (in French?)? How do you get one (if needed)? Does he need something else for trout? Any advice gratefully received.

YES he needs a licence, it's called a "permis de peche" if he fishes for trout he'll need a "premiere catagorie". Though if he fishes on completely private waters then he won't need one at all. For most places he can get a tourist licence, lasting 2 weeks. I live in France and so if you want any more advice, mail me "trisrebdad@hotmail.com"

Another item you should get when visiting a foreign country is an E1-11, this covers you for any hospital treatment, which can be costly these can be obtained from most post offices and are free of charge

Sound advice especially on the E1-11, you will still have to pay cash for some things but you will get it back, make sure you get a reciet (sp)

Security is another thing to think about, I have heard lots of stories about wheels, radios etc being stolen especially from "foreign cars", an easy mark and difficult for the victim to report it. These thefts were mainly from Carp anglers as they spent a week away from the car bivvied up.

As for licences, BEFORE you buy your licences, check that there is room for you to fish and I don't mean with the person that is selling it, go and look around the water! Once you have your licence stamped thats it so if there is no room to fish then you have wasted your money

Been there, done it but never bothered with a Tshirt.

I hope your friend and her son have a magic holiday, it must be great to have a son to take fishing sad.gif
