I am think of joining the Abingdon and Oxford Anglers Alliance, as anyone fished there venues if so which ones are worth looking at for Barbel and Chub as I am driving some 140 miles round trip and do not want to waste my time and money. I am not asking for hot spots just a general advice, as the last time I fished the Thames was back in the 50’s and 60’s.

Don't know the Abingdon & Oxford waters, but have you considered Milton Keynes AA? £30/year for some of the best Chub and Barbel fishing I've ever had. The Ousel's good for Chub to just short of 6lb and the odd Barbel to low doubles. The Ouse's got Chub to over 6lb and huge Barbel (even though Adams is no longer on the ticket, there are other spots that produce fish to over 15lb). If you're in Beds then these are likely to be closer to you than the A&O waters.
