I was wanting to have a crack at popping up a worm for perch, and I remember reading a thread that said you have to get small needles (syringes) or else the worm bursts - but I can't find the thread. Can anyone tell me where you can get the right needles, and a right description of them ie what to ask for.

I have brought them from the local tackle shop, just asked for some needles for injecting flavour or popping up worms.
The needles my tackle shop sells dont look particualy small (compared to docters needles) in fact there much larger.

failing that i suppose any needle would do.

a popped up lob is useually good for a chub or perch on my local canal.

If you want a very small bore syringe then those used bu diabetics fit the bill. Ask around if anyone knows some body with diabetes I'm sure they will let you have a couple.

Why not use a small piece of foam to pop the wrigglers up?

You can get away with a surprisingly big needle or syringe FT. I've never blown a worm up to the extent that it bursts, they'll just leak the air with a fizz if you overdo it. Providing you only administer a moderate amount of air, the worm's innards act pretty much like a self sealing puncture repair compound, and you'll find that you'll probably need to refresh your worm long before it deflates. Beware though, it's surprising how little air they need to become completely bouyant. A decent sized lob that has been blown up fully, will easily float two or three swan shot, so the trick is not to overdo it.

It's a brilliant method for Eels, tench, perch or carp. Needles are easily obtained, as Kempo has pointed out, from any pharmacist shop. The ones used by diabetics to inject insulin are fine. Unless the law has changed, I think I'm right in saying that the chemist is duty bound to supply you if requested.

Not really purist stuff but I made this pop up worm rig for carp, but couldnt stop catching perch arounf 1lb and half on it, It works well and all you have to do is push the wire part down the first inch of the worm untill its touching the cork and then fold the wire over.

The only reason I do this is because I dont trust my self with needles and can see me geting hurt lol. Josh smile.gif
