Has anyone managed to keep one of these things working for more than about 6 months?

They are a real boon for us evil/stupid (before you all start) smokers in windy conditions but a pita when they won't work.

I'm building up quite a collection of duff ones.

Try getting yourself a Zippo. Lighter fluid as needed and the occasional flint replacement (there is a nice pouch under the cotton to hold 3-4 spares).

The last time I bought one they had a lifetime guarantee.

I agree Newt, been a 'zippo' man for years now.

Keep a load of flints under the cotton and when I am really "in the wild" a piece of string to drop it into the fuel tank of the landrover.

Got quite a few of them, only have one engraved with my name at the moment, despite the fact that for the last 8 or so years my son has bought me an engraved one for birthday, I seem to always lose that one blink.gif

Got a few US Warship ones from visiting warships to Portsmouth when I was there, and even one from Wales which displays the WelCh flag but I have NEVER taken that anywhere. (you can probably understand if you live anywhere BUT WelCh rolleyes.gif

Hi all

those wind proof non zippo`s are shite and always either burn your fingers or you cannot even tell its alight and if you manage to ignite them it blows out too fast.smile.gif

zippo`s are the top runner as far as i can see smile.gif

I'm surprised that there is nothing better these days than a Zippo.

Not that there's anything wrong with Zippos but it is after all a 70+ year old design.

I'm going to give my Grandads old Ronson Whirlwind a go for a while, that's got to be well over 50 years old and is working well now I've put some juice in it. thumbs.gif
