I posted a couple of these pictures a while back but we have quite a few new folks on the forum and some recent interest in catfishing.
In case you are worried about using a bait or hook that is too large for catfish, you can probably relax. These pictures are of a US flathead catfish so not identical to the Wels you have over there but their habits are similar. These are real by the way. Fish was in a pond in a residential area. Evidently found a childs ball appealing and tried to eat it. A local saw the problem and managed to get the fish to shore and puncture the ball which was removed with no harm to the fish. It swam off and didn't appear to be any the worse for the experience. I'm not sure but I'd guess the fish took the ball to be a tasty (although odd looking) bird with maybe some injury based on the amount of red.
