One thing about the American recriational fishing industry, they really know how to drive home the point about the local economic benefits of a well managed wild fishery.

A few years ago, almost all of the streamer weed on the Severn disapeared and we started getting water released into the river with an odd "bitty" colour to it. Peole stopped travelling to the river and the banks emptied. Pubs, hotels and caravan parks in the area did less business as a result and the river is only just starting to recover.
Had this been the US, the local business comunity would have gone Ape Sh1t. Here, they just rolled over and took it.

Let's just hope that now that the Cormerants on the US are having a little cough, ours get a serious cold real soon.

Leon - amazing to me how many folks there still want to "study" the situation some more before agreeing that too many birds is the problem and fewer birds is a reasonable solution to that particular problem.
