Probably been covered before, but what the heck.
With it being all the fashion to have everything camo these days, I can't help but to think of something i read a year or two back by some professor or alike that claimed fish don't see colours the same way we do and in his test it was more beneficial to wear clothing with a broken texture than get the colours right. Something to do with the way light bounces off it and it being more in keeping with the average bank and plant life. Haven't come across to many good match men that seem to worry about camo & from memory of John Wilson used to wear a red woolly jumper a lot. He had a big fuzzy beard to and 1 or 2 good anglers on hear have beards. Maybe i should grow one to break the out line of my face up, and put them frilly nickers on my shiny bold head. What do you think? Not the Beard & nicker bit that was a joke. |

Don't know about the camo stuff or how fish see but I would tend to avoid light / bright colours.
I amused me to watch matt hayes stalking chub wearing a camo T shirt and going on about how important this was whilst at the same time wearing a white baseball cap which stood out like a neon beacon. Surely one or the other. -------------------- Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.

I think it's more sudden movement than the colour that spooks fish visually. Although I tend to wear subdued clothing, (not camo) more for my benefit, because it feels 'right'. When fish watching I have stood in a white shirt and the fish have behaved as if they were unaware. But make a sudden move, and they shoot off. Sudden movement and sound, I believe, are the two main causes for fish being spooked. I remember fishing with a bad summer cold, I let out a loud sneeze, and a shoal of fish on the shallows about 20yds away scattered! The thing about the trend for camo that makes me laugh, is when an angler is dressed in all the gear, with full camo bivvy, the lot. Then he casts to a spot 10ft deep, 70-100yds away. John. -------------------- Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Agree on the camo and casting bait to the horizon....completely f-ing pointless.
Like a lot of things, just a fad to empty the pockets of anglers |

I think if your fishing at close range eg stalking chub or barbel on your local river it probably pays to wear something drab and ghost into your suroundings. But i really dont see the point of going to the extremes that some of the carp boys do nowadays. Head to toe in realtree and the like. I think noise pays a bigger factor when fishing than being seen. Slow delibertate movement and stealth is all you need. No need to dress like a SAS sniper And while we are on the subject. Whats the point of a camo baiting needle? One of my friends gave me one and i dropped it whilst chubbing last winter and it took me all day to find it |

I would tend to avoid light / bright colours. Doesn't seem to worry Kingfishers. I amused me to watch matt hayes stalking chub wearing a camo T shirt and going on about how important this was whilst at the same time wearing a white baseball cap which stood out like a neon beacon. Surely one or the other. I think he would be happy to promote anything that is in his catalogue. |

Definitely go for the beard! I always seem to get the better fish when I've been too lazy to shave for a while
