Sorry for the delay in this one peep's been in hospital again, Dr told me to take it easy for a fortnight and NOT go fishing (plonker, can't see I am addicted!) So I went out Sunday to Nab but had a crap day with a mixed bag of pout, whiting & dogs.........

Equally I am posting this here instead of fishing reports, as, if you read on it gives an indication of what we have been talking about this past year.

The Needles Cod Championships is a two day event fished this year by 165 anglers on 20 boats first day and 21 boats the second day.

Best fish caught was a 29lb 81/2 oz by a local angler, who also took second place overall with three Cod and a total weight of 55lb 3oz.

Best fish on second day also gained the captor second prize overall with three Cod over the two days.

A total of some 23 odd cod were caught on day one and 13 Cod on day two.

Getting into the statistics, with 165 anglers fishing over two days equates to a total of (say)2640 hours of prime fishing time during which a total of 46 Cod were landed giving an average time of some 57 hours to land each Cod!

Contrast this to last year when over 100 Cod were landed on the first day alone and I think we can all see that something is awry.

Yuppers saw that Bryan,

Bembridge seems to be outperforming Needles at the mo, having said that was 32 boats there on Sunday, 2 reports of Cod, 14lb and a 'small cod', lots of boats reporting whiting but very variable amongst the 'fleet' some only caught pout and one boat reported a small ray and two Doggies.......

Looking forward to seeing you, get her to hurry up.......... biggrin.gif

If the visibility is good on a weekend day you can usually spot at least 40 boats fishing from any point from Sandown Bay to Selsey. It only gets busy when 20 plus all want to fish the same area of bank

Sorry Salar, I didnt mean to come across like that, if i had a boat myself I would be out there as well. It can be easy to forget the sea is a big area, however it must surely can be frustating if there are so many boats in a small area?
