I am on a look out for any pike rigs which is very less resistance for the pike.

At the moment I am getting some takes but not connecting the fish. Before you start have a go with me about using big bait That not the case sad.gif At the moment I have tried all sot of bait including livebait, deadbait, and Lures.

Despite having some runs on the deadbaiting with small sardines.

I am pretty sure they(Pike)can feel the resistance from somewhere.

Is there any pike rig where the pike can't feel the resistance.

Freeling is pretty resistance free! Yes, pike do feel resistance, no question of it. But resistance free is one thing, bite indication is another. It's finding a happy compromise. Have a look at some of the low resistance carp rigs. Me, I like Mick Brown's pencil floats set at half-cock and a very free running bomb.

Ill help you when I get my hands on you you cheeky sod biggrin.gif Check out the link it shows the free running pat rig I always use at this time of year when they start getting finiky.I just realised that you would never have used it with me as all of our piking get togethers have been done under good conditions.Works well.Me and Stu always used it at that Canterbury water we took you too at the back end of the season. Also did the buisness at Ardingly when it got hard.First thing I switch to when the standard pat rig starts getting dropped runs.
Right no more help youre 39 now and youve got to start figuring things out yourself now! tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

Thank Budgie but your method look good but will it work in very shallow water? In 2 - 3 ft of Water? Is there another one out there but in a simple set up? biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

You can use it in a lot shallower water than a standard pat rig as the uptrace is in a horizontal rather than vertical plane.I tend to use it down to about a minimum of 3' after that I ledger a live bait Poly Ball style.

The missed runs you had on sardine, were they on a ledger rig? If so are you still using the "curtain ring" rig? shouldnt have any resistance problems there. How long are the runs before they are dropped? smooth or jerky?

Yes Budgie I am still using the "curtain ring" rig when all my drop off goes I am about 7yards away from any of the rods and by the time I get to the rod the line stop off the baitrunner reel and there is no more movement or "feeling" the line then I know that the bait has being drop. When the pike drop the bait I don't tend to reel it in and cast out again, I am leaving it where they drop it like you did at Earlswoods Lakes and hopefully they DO rember where they did drop it. Talking about the method you mention in the earlier post can it be used as a deadbait intead or a livebait? (In our clubhouse records for the past two seasons our pike catch have to to be recorded and most where caught on deadbaits up to 22lbs). Sometime the runs have been smooth and one or two times it have been jerky even the line clip are not that tight even a wind can pull it out. One or two times there are tell-tell sign of the teeth marks sad.gif so that why I am sure they are "feeling" the resistance but where about I do not know. I thought it might be the braid I am using but one of the drop run was on mono line. So it can't be the line problem? Can it be? So I am putting it down to small jack which the deadbait is too big but I am only using very small bait at 4-6", Even down to 3" sad.gif sad.gif

You mention the bait runner? are you using it or an open spool? You can use the free running pat rig for small whole natural deads but it is primarily a live bait rig.
Oh if you are using the baitrunner and wondering why you are getting dropped runs I will get in my (or should I say youre!) old car and come up there and slap you about a bit bro! rolleyes.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
