This might sound a daft question to a lot of you "experienced" anglers But when do the fish start biting again, is it when the weather gets warmer or when spring arrives?...Went on the canal the other week and only caught a cold!
Thanks biggrin.gif

Bites from silver fish tailed off, last November, so I've been pike fishing, almost exclusively, since then. On Sunday, however, I blanked with my pike-gear, while another angler was hauling out bream and roach from a nearby swim. It was a warm-ish sort of day, as long as you were sheltered. It looks like conditions are turning the smaller fish back on to feed.

It's as much about location as anything at this time of the year. No good fishing where there are no fish! If you have a marina or boat cut on your canal then it might be well worth fishing there.

I don't do canals, but they don't really stop feeding on rivers.

Changes in the weather can put them off for a while but a settled spell of weather, either cold or warm will see something feeding.

I think it is more to do with light levels and day length than temperature. Longer days even when last frosts etc occur seem to get fish going. They know its bonking time soon and time to get their ass in gear and start munching for the sake of their little ones to be.
