I am selling a couple of carp rods and wonder how people package rods that they are posting? And what company do they use to send them? I know royal mail dont post things over a metre or something, so any help would be appreciated!

QUOTE Glasgowdan:  I normally use Parcel Force but they get funny if it's over 1.5 metres but the driver usually takes them anyway, or Business Post, bit dearer but not so fussy. Wrap some corregated cardboard or bubble wrap round them, get a rod tube from your local tackle shop, erase all previous addresses, add a good address label, tape it securely and either take it to their depot or ask them to collect it. :confused:I am selling a couple of carp rods and wonder how people package rods that they are posting? Yep.
If possible, make sure the cardboard is in a triangle shape as this is the strongest form and put extra bubble wrap around the rings. Veals use this system and it works perfectly well. I like to seal the lot shut with duck tape, and explain what is inside if you have to send it over an international border (you can get a small green leaflet in your local post office to allow you explain this). Incidentally the size of the individual bubbles in the bubble wrap is important, bigger the better in my book. Someone sent me a second hand reel wrapped in thing stuff and the handle had been bent by some impact (or it could have been that way before it was sent although the previous owner who is a decent lad swore it was in perfect nick). Hope this helps... -------------------- |

Use a piece of drainpipe/2" wastepipe to pack them in, making sure the rod can't slide back & forth in the tube and trash the tip ring. I received 2 rods this week that were sent using 'Nightspeed' courier service. £15 UK to C.I.

Hi Glasgowdan-I have packaged a few rods like above and had the the problem of most of the courier companies saying that they only deal with business customers. I eventually found City Link Express???. They have taken two or three for me-no probs. Mostly been sent about two hundred miles odd after selling on Ebay.
It normally costs me about thirteen to seventeen quid. And I think they are normally delivered next day. Never had a problem. I did stop and speak to a UPS. driver who delivered to the school where I work. He said they would also do it.Hope this helps................p.s. with City Link-I have delivered the rods to their depot, which is six miles from me. I think the UPS driver said that he would collect also; but that would need checking out......... -------------------- Out of my mind. Back in five minutes............

Head down to your local carpet wharehouse and get some of the cardboard tubing they use inside rolls of carpet or lino.

Post office will take up to 2.5 metre in length.
Use plastic guttering pipe, it weighs a lot less then the thick cardboard carpet tubes, so its cheaper to post. Or you could try my method. If you have a local tackle shop and you are friendly with them, slip them a couple of quid and let them send it for you. |
