When we completed our new shop a tri-colour cat now named blossom decided to adopt us and we dutifully supplied her with cat food fed to her just inside the shop door.
Mr. and Mrs. Blackbird who have nested in the garden center for several years decided this was a feast not to be missed and duly called in for a snack. Mr. and Mrs. Robin not to be out done decided to join them and were followed by Blue tits, coal tits, house sparrows, hedge sparrows, but when the Jackdaws came to town it was time to think up a new strategy. The bird table at the rear of the shop was obviously not enough for them so we installed one near the shop entrance. ![]() The problem we now face is persuading them that the alfresco feast is in fact tastier than the cat food feast. Currently it is being totally ignored and everyone is making a bee line for the cat food which could end in disaster one day if the cat is feeling hungry and is lacking food. -------------------- I fish, I catches a few, I lose a few, BUT I enjoys. Cats being what they are have very definite ideas about what should be The strange thing is whilst she brings mice back, a habit which my wife detest The other reason for evicting the birds was they are none to worried where they deposit their left overs if you get my drift They don't seem to worry about customers and I fear the day when they will start stopping off in the coffee shop for a quick snack of a customers plate -------------------- I fish, I catches a few, I lose a few, BUT I enjoys. AN Resident Contrarian ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Group: Members Posts: 18,030 Joined: 18-September 01 From: farnham surrey Member No.: 1,265 |
we dont get any in our garden its open to the fields and bird silly enough to venture much further than next doors hedge becomes nothing more than a few feathers and sparrow hawk food.
one feeder gets used near the rose arch but the other just 4 ft from the hedge remains full from 4 months ago ,we do though have a long tailed tit that always sleeps in a now rotten hollow log in the arch ,its tail sticks out one end but it seems to find it nice enough and leaving the car door open invites the robin to sit on the back of a seat and leave a small present when it leaves ,it only has to be open for a minute or so and its there. we do though have a large resident flock of jackdaws who insist on digging up the lawn despite acres of fields all around some mornings its like the somme. we do though (whilst on the bird theme) have bumble bee nest in a bird nest box (nope birds dont even want free accommodation This post has been edited by chesters1: May 16 2007, 09:38 PM -------------------- |
